Meet the Director

Cynthia M. Scanland, MSSA

Welcome to our website! Allen County Children Services (ACCS) is the agency charged with the duty to respond to your concerns regarding the abuse and neglect of our community’s children. If you have a suspicion that a child may be abused or neglected, do not hesitate to call (419) 227-8590 and ask to speak to an Intake Screener.

In 2019, ACCS received 3,556 calls concerning the care of children. Child abuse and neglect occur in every community and take many forms including, physical abuse, verbal abuse, medical neglect, supervisional neglect, environmental neglect, etc.

ACCS is always looking for families of all sizes to become foster homes. If you are considering opening your heart and home to a child in need of a loving and nurturing home, or would like more information on foster parenting, please call the agency and ask to speak to a Foster Care Specialist. ACCS maintains on average 50 state-approved foster homes in and around Allen County, however, this number is not enough. The more foster homes we have, the better we are able to match a child’s needs with the strengths and experience of the foster family. We also need foster homes with the room to care for large sibling groups.

ACCS also approves families for adoption. Adoption is a beautiful way to grow your family. In 2019, ACCS helped to finalize 7 adoptions in our community. That is 7 children becoming a permanent part of a loving family. For more information on adoption, please call ACCS and ask to speak to an adoption caseworker.

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about Allen County Children Services. In the coming months, we are planning on regularly updating and adding to our website. Please come back and let us know how we are doing.
